It certainly helps when the developers leave comment lines in there (some get pretty sloppy) but in the end that is really all we need for the first cut. People who are committed to modding will take the time to go through the code and learn what can and can’t be scripted. Heck I used WinRAR to unpack and repack them and notepad to do the edits. When I was modding, all I really needed was the ability to unpack and repack the game files in a way that could be read and edited by a simple program.
It also made it so complex for them to code and they were totally broken so they just gave up.
They tried to make a nice clean GUI for it so the average Joe could mod and that broke the whole thing. What happened is we had some decent but cryptic tools. Step two is the mod tools, and I would caution against them doing what they did before. We also need a list of cvars (although we can usually find those ourselves). Then we need the server files along with a server script so we can customize the server to run the way people want. Unranked takes you to the old fashioned server browser, with the ability to filter servers by things like ping, game type, mods, etc. Ranked menu takes you to the current system of play.
Should be a menu option that says ranked, unranked. What needs to happen here (just in case pcdev is peeking) is we need a multiplayer browser that is simple. First took away mod tools, then they obscured the server browser so it was near impossible for the average player to find a custom game, then they took away the server files and browser completely and gave us what we have today which is garbage for multiplayer. What happened here has come over several successions of the game and year over year. Ghosts was never going to get mod tools, or server files.
